I am so happy to be guest designing for Crafty Doodle Chick for the month of June! I was awarded the Paw-Fect Pup for participation in the May Paw-Fect Challenge so I had begun working on this card for the new June challenge, For the Boys. So when Jennifer approached me about being a Guest Designer, I was ready! I have had My Favorite Things's Viking stamp set for some time, and the image had been stamped and ready for several weeks. With Father's Day approaching, I wanted this card to be perfect for a dad. I colored our burly Northman with Copic markers, trying hard to create a hairy vest and hammered metal appearance to those elements. I wanted rich, warm tones, keeping to browns, khaki, and burgundy red.
I wanted to use woodgrain paper at the base of the card, to emulate a wooden boat, and create a darker, almost stormy sky. I lightly inked the upper portion of my top-folding A2 card base with Salty Ocean distress ink then, using Altenew's Halftone stencil, I inked over the sky with the gradient getting smaller/lighter toward the top of the card using Stormy Skies distress ink. A couple grey clouds were added to complete the darker, stormy sky.
The "DAD" word is from an older Avery Elle stamp set in my stash, embossed with Nuvo's Copper Blush embossing powder. The sub sentiment I typed and printed using my home printer. I considered using "I Vike You Very Much" but wanted the sentiment to more focused on "dad".
The clouds were adhered flat to the card base, while the lower "wooden" panel and Viking dad were attached with foam tape. The lower sentiment was glued flat to the bottom panel just below the embossed "DAD".
I hope you found some fun inspiration! I love using stencils and wanted to show how this Halftone stencil could add interest to a sky scene. It is a subtle effect, but so much better than just a lightly inked (flat) blue, in my opinion. I'll be back next week for more Crafty Doodle Chick fun!
