Dream Big!

Hi everyone!  It's Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules here to share a beautiful card using a couple of different stamps from CraftyDoodleChick.com.  I'm sharing this today because I wanted to celebrate my 40th birthday with all of you.  When I started crafting, I just enjoyed making scrapbooks of my family trips.  Eventually my boys grew up and didn't want to take pictures, so I started making cards.  So now, I've been making cards for about 2 years and I love it.  This year, I made some life goals...

One was to become a design team member.  Crafty Doodle Chick has been a great place to start my dream.  The fun variety of stamps and creativity have been inspirational.  This weekend, I used a little stamp by Altenew called "Dream Big" and a sentiment stamp by Gina K. Designs', called "Scripty Sayings."  Sometimes just a little thing can make things big!

Because this stamp is little,  there's plenty of room to embellish, even on an A2 sized card.  For this card, I started by using a pink scalloped printed paper in a soft pink.  Because the paper was a light color, I was able to stamp on it like you might a plain piece of white paper.  I used my Tim Holtz' Nature's Elements stamp on the bottom.  Using second and third generation stamping, it made a subtle background.  To add a little more depth, I used a navy ink on the top edges to give the impression of a sky.  Last, I stamped the beautiful sentiment in Night of Navy of Stampin' Up.

Finally, we get to the beautiful butterfly.  I first stamped it with Gina K. Black Amalgam ink.  The next layer was "Pretty In Pink" by Stampin' Up and last I used "Night of Navy" by Stampin' Up.  Using the matching die, I cut the stamped butterfly, but I also die cut three more to layer under this on and give it dimension when adhering it to the center of the card.  To add a little more, I tied some navy twine around the bottom portion of the card.  For the final step, I adhered my work to a pink A2 size card.Thank you so much for joining me today and on this crafty journey in life.  I am so blessed to have the time and ability to craft and my wish is that you do too!Happy crafting and remember to DREAM BIG!

Foil and Foam

Are you in love with foil like I currently am?  It's Lisa here and today I'm sharing a card I created using the new to the store Deco Foil White Foam Adhesive and the Deco Foil Transfer Sheets in Rainbow Shattered Glass.  These products are way easier than you might think they are to use.  To create your own personalized foiled letter, shape, image all you have to do is cut it out of the adhesive foam, peel one side of the adhesive backing off, stick it to the foil sheet, rub and viola!

For my card, believe it or not, I gained all of my inspiration after looking at this sentiment from The Stamp Market Just Wonderful Stamp Set.  So I started by stamping the sentiment in the middle of my card.  Next, I diecut the circles and adhered the foil on top.  All I had to do after that was peel the other side of the foam adhesive and stick them to my card!  I finished the card with a few sequins.

So what do you think about the foil craze?  If you aren't ready to buy into a full machine the Deco Foil Adhesive and Transfer Sheets are a perfect and cheaper alternative.

Thanks so much for stopping by and Happy Crafting!

Lots of Love

Hi everyone!  It's Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules back again to share a SUPER simple card that you can make in just minutes.  All you need is one sentiment stamp, like Neat & Tangled's "Typed Sentiments", the beautifully detailed Whimsy Stamps "Envelope Edgers" Die Set and a few pieces of coordinating design paper.

Using an A2 sized card base (5.5" x 4.25") in white, I based measurements off of that.  I cut a navy layer in 4.125" x 5.375", a white and gold patterned paper in 4" x 5.25" and another piece of navy in 3.75" x 5".  Next I used the Envelope Edgers die by Whimsy Stamps to die cut the smaller piece of navy card stock.

I layered all of the pieces in size order onto the card base.  I cut a strip of gold glitter stock that I had in my scrap pile and added it to the top trim of the navy card stock.  I then lined up and stamped the "i love you" sentiment from the Neat & Tangled "Typed Sentiments" stamp set.  To keep it simple, I used white pigment ink.  The patterned paper I used had a few printed florals so I cut one out and added some Scrapbook Adhesive Thin Foam Squares to give it a little dimension.  And because I wanted just a little more bling, I added some gold Stickles drops around the floral and sentiment.

This card took me about 7 minutes to make, and a good amount of time was spent on deciding what paper to use.  Take a look at some of your sentiment stamps and make use of that beautiful patterned paper you have to make your next card!  Don't forget to check out what new stamps are at CraftyDoodleChick.com and be inspired!

Thanks so much for following along!

Happy Crafting!

Some Kind of Wonderful...

Hello, hello!  It's Lisa here with you on this fantastic Friday, and with the warm weather popping up here in Ohio so are the flowers.  Of course that can only mean one thing... I just had to go floral for my post today!  Altenew is one of my favorite companies when it comes to floral stamps, and there have been some beautiful new ones released more recently.  Including the fabulous Dainty Bouquet set, with it's subtle depth in color...

To create this card I started by stamping my image first in a light grey ink, and then added greens and pinks in two different shades with the layering images.  Now, this set has two large floral bouquet images and no sentiments so my eyes happened to fall on my Stamp Market Just Wonderful Stamp Set and I found it to work perfectly with my flower.  I decided to diecut my panel with an old "postage stamp" look, and adhered it with foam adhesive onto colored cardstock.  As a finishing touch I adhered a few clear rhinestones and called it a day.

I was so excited with how this card turned out and the depth this layered floral image was able to achieve.  This card was so easy to put together, and probably looks way more complicated than it really is.  Check out the new Altenew florals in the store now and grab yours before they are gone!

Wish Upon A Star

Happy Thursday, Crafty Doodle Friends!  It's Jules again of Paper Gems by Jules with a crafty wish come true!  I love using a variety of items to make one card.  In this week's card, I used the Lawn Fawn "Upon a Star," My Favorite Things "Grassy Hills" Dienamics, Tim Holtz Distress Ink and white embossing powder.  Follow along to see how you can make a starry night on your next card.

I first started with a 4" x 5.25" piece of Bristol Smooth card stock.  First step was to line up all the stary stamps and sentiment. Before using Lawn Fawn Embossing Ink Pad, I brushed non-stick powder on the card stock.  Then I stamped the images using my Misti to ensure that all was stamped.  I then heat embossed clear embossing powder.  Because the paper is white, the clear embossing will mask the ink applied later.

I then applied four Distress Inks (Shaded Lilac, Blueprint Sketch, Chipped Sapphire and Black Soot), blending light to dark to make the sky.  I then found some scrap green and die cut it.  To add shadows, I used three Distress Inks (Mowed Lawn, Forest Moss and Black Soot).  Keeping the light source in the middle and leaving room for our furry foxes.

The foxes were stamped using Gina K Amalgam Ink in Jet Black onto Copic friendly paper and fussy cut out.  I colored both of them the same, leaving their tail tips white.  I also tried to keep the light source in the center of each of them, making their bottoms darker.

Putting it together from here was easy.  I added the grass and used Scrapbook Adhesive 3D Foam Squares behind the foxes for a little pop.  To ground the little furry characters, I used a grey Copic marker to sketch shadows under them in the grass.  To frame the entire image, I matted it on black card stock before adhering to the card base.

Thank you so much for joining me in another week of Crafty Doodleness!  I hope you enjoyed. Below are some of the supplies used.  Use the links in the blog to find some at CraftyDoodleChick.com and MORE!

Until next time... Happy Crafting!

Little Letterboard Fun

Hello, hello!  It's Lisa here today, and today's post is all about the letterboard craze.  Do you have a letterboard?  I do, and I LOVE it!  I love being able to switch out the words and make the sign change according to how I'm feeling, or what I want to share with the kids, or any special occasions.

With all of that being said, have you seen there is a way to share some letterboard fun through your cardmaking or papercrafting fun?  Thanks to the super cute Little Letterboard Dies by The Stamp Market you can make your own cut signs and personalize them on your crafts too!  Check it out...

This card was so quick to put together that I probably could make a set in under an hour.  The most time consuming part is making sure you cut enough of each letter to complete your saying.  I suggest you write your sentiment out on paper so you can count how many of each letter you need and then you can write the number for each out.  It might seem a bit overboard, but trust me it will save you time in the end.

For my letterboard I used a faux wood patterned paper for the frame, and black cardstock for the "board" part.  I happened to have some gold foil cardstock sitting out and decided it would be fun to cut my letters with.  Once the board was put all together then I adhered it to a mix of patterned papers and left over circle diecuts.  I went with a masculine color scheme so I could put this card in my sons lunch box.

Well, that's it for me today.  I hope I've inspired you to give this new die a try and create your own fun "letterboard" sentiments that can bring a smile to others.

Happy Crafting!

New Heights

Happy Thursday, Crafty Friends!  I'm back from an amazing vacation in Arizona.  It was my first time there and I loved every bit of it.  The only downfall was that I didn't spend any time crafting.  However, I did get time to appreciate a lot of Native American art.  From baskets to bookmarks, it was all so amazing.  I was inspired in many ways... and some of those projects are on the way.  But for today, I pulled out a little itty bitty stamp that I adore.

This week I used the Santoro "No. 2: New Heights" stamp for my card.  To add a little whimsy, because she was standing on books, I opted to stamp her on printed paper.  When you choose to stamp on printed paper, keep in mind if you're coloring.  If you are looking to see skin tones, either use light colored paper or use colored pencils.  (The secret to adding color on a dark paper with colored pencils is to use white pencil as your base and then add your color.)

For this card, I colored her with copic markers.  Because the paper was thin, I opted to only blend with two different colors.  For her dress, I used a white gel pen to color in the dogs and highlights.  Once she was colored in, I distressed the right side of the paper, then using Distress Inks to color the wrinkles added a little more character to the paper.  It still didn't feel like enough, so I pulled out my Tim Holtz "Blossom Layering" stencil around the edge of the printed paper.

Using Neat & Tangled's "Typed Sentiments" stamp set to add the sentiment.  I used white embossing powder on black card stock to make it bold on this grungy pastel print.  Once those were placed, I layered this piece onto another patterned scrap I had that held similar colors and used light olive twine to add a delicate bow.

I hope you enjoyed this card and consider mixing and matching stamp sets and supplies. And please... share what you make on the Crafty Doodle Chick Chat & Create FaceBook page.

Out of this World...

Hello, and Happy Friday!!!  It's Lisa here with all of you, and I have a fun out of this world card to share today.  I really wanted to use my new Hero Arts Dream Big Stamp Set, and since the Gold Gina K. Glitz Gel just happened to be sitting out I knew it was a perfect match!

To create this card I started by stamping the boy with the planet balloons in his hand.  Next I masked both images and used a star stencil along with the Gold Glitz Gel for a starry sky.  Once the gel was dry (which took less time than I thought it would), I went over the background with a mix of Distress Oxide and Distress Inks.  Next, I removed the masks and colored in my images with my Spectrum Noir Markers.  I wanted to keep the card light and whimsical, so my coloring is just a hodge podge of colors.  Using a mini mister I splashed a few drops of water on the background and set it to the side.  In the mean time, I stamped my sentiment onto black cardstock with white ink.  Normally I would emboss my sentiment with white embossing powder, but I didn't want the sentiment to distract from the images so I kept the softer look by using white ink.  To finish my card I adhered my panel onto black cardstock and a white cardbase.

Make sure you pop into the store and check out all of the new products, including the newer Hero Art goodies like the stamp set I've used on my card today.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Who's a Good Boy?

Happy Thursday!  It's Julissa of Paper Gems by Jules and I'm back again with another super cute dog card featuring Whimsy Stamps "Caution Dog Slobber."  I just love these cute muts!

As you may have already figured out, I'm a huge dog lover and have two rescues of my own.  And I'm forever thankful for all the efforts of rescue organizations all over the world that help animals have a better life.  This stamp set is a great way to say thanks to some of the great people in your pet's life, like the vet, dog walker and even groomer! These are my two pups.

(Oakley & Sandy Bear)
For this card, I opted for one of the silly sentiments making this a kind of "just because" card.  First, I cut down an A2 size piece of Bristol smooth cardstock.  I colored the background with Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers and Twisted Citron Distress Oxides.  In case everything didn't blend perfectly, I like to splash a little water and maybe some color to break things up a bit.  I then took that colored piece and embossed it with a paw print embossing folder.  To have the raised images stand out, I gently sanded the top highlighting the images.

Next, I colored this cute pup.  Since the background was so bright, I made pup grey.  I then added Morning Dew Nuvo drops onto his nose to give it more dimension.  What should we name him? šŸ¾

Now to ground the image, I stamped the sentiment with Versamark onto black card stock and then used white embossing powder.  I took another scrap strip of Bristol smooth card stock and colored it using the Salty Ocean Distress Oxide.  And last, I pulled out some stripe scrap paper.  I layered them on top of each other and adhered them toward the bottom of the card.  For a little "extra", I pulled out some old colored staples and threw them in there in the lower right corner... they matched so, why not!

Layering this onto a slightly larger black card stock and finally onto a lime green card base, this card is done.  And because I love these stamps, I stamped the envelope with this fun sentiment.  How fun is that?!
